Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:


We are seeking applications for a Senior Advisor to join the National Security Intelligence team at MBIE. This role will focus on supporting the Lead Advisor for National Security, as well as the National Manager, National Security Intelligence. Your responsibilities will be broad from writing reports and build connections to inform decision makers, to collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to promote best practice and contribute to the effective running of MBIE’s national security governance arrangements.


We are looking for someone with a proactive attitude who is comfortable operating with ambiguity, and who are able to work across a wide range of subject matter. You will be part of a small, highly collaborative team, working in a high-paced and dynamic environment at times.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Ability to collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholder groups to develop solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills, and strong facilitation skills.
  • Experience working in an advisory or operational role in the New Zealand government.
  • Ability to work in a high-paced and dynamic environment, with a proactive attitude and a high level of initiative.
  • A tertiary degree in a relevant field, or relevant knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • Applicants must have the ability to obtain and maintain a NZ Security Clearance.

For your application to be considered you must be a New Zealand citizen or have New Zealand permanent residency. You must also be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret New Zealand national security clearance if not already obtained (check your eligibility here).
